Procrastination Is A Problem That Plagues Student |
One of the most difficult task that a teacher and the school have to accomplish is to make the students do the work and study as much as is needed for them to have good grades and learn the subject correctly.
Academic procrastination is something very common that needs to be addressed by teachers and parents, there could be many reasons for a student to avoid doing their homework, not studying the tests or not completing a task.
So i agree that procrastination is a problem that plagues students of all ages, but there is a lot that can be done to improve this. First we need to identify the possible causes, if you are dealing with a classroom of students then the way that you are going to solve the problem is different than if you are trying to help a single person.
Causes of procrastination can be many some of them are anxiety, lack of self esteem, desire for perfection, psychological and emotional problems, not being in the right mood, lack of goals, confused instructions and others. So parents need to help their kids deal with this problem by encourage them, helping them in their homework and motivate them.
However in a classroom of students or when you are dealing with a group of students then is different. What you can do to help them avoid procrastination is to:
set clear goals of what you want them to achieve
give them clear instructions of what needs to be done, even step by step.
Motivate them by making a challenge, giving rewards or making a live case study.
Set clear deadlines
Tell them not to look for perfection just good enough, you dont want them to spend hours in just researching or understanding, it needs to be done fast.
Those points can help you deal with students that procrastinate, either when they are doing work at the school or in their home, you can even encourage them to do study groups, but it depends on what kind of work they need to get done, it does not apply in all cases.
