How to Avoid Teen Procrastination

When we are adolescents start to face different personal problems that we didnt have previously, in our personal life, in school and with our loved ones. This can cause a lot of distraction in getting done the activities that are important for our development, thats why we should learn to avoid teen procrastination.

Its very common for an adolescent that goes to school to procrastinate in some of the work he or she has to do for the school or job. Teenagers get distracted by simple things like thinking in the girl they just meet, thinking in a personal problem they have with a friend or being sad for some family problem, but thats not all. Nowadays teenagers have a lot more distraction like tv, internet, chat, email, cellphones, the list goes on and on.

They usually do not say no or cant avoid chatting with a friend or any other communication that prevents them from finishing his important work. You have to be aware of this problem, because can be the cause of low performance and bad grades.

To avoid procrastination you need to apply some techniques that can help you and look also for the help of your parents. For example, you need to set aside a few hours a day to do your homework, use 2 or 3 hours a day to get done your homework and focus on it, turn off the cell phone, the chat, the email and dont stop until you have finished your homework.

If possible go to the library or some place quiet where no one can distract you or take away your time. Set specific goals of how much you want to accomplish each week and follow your schedule every day, if you set aside 2 hours a day to do homework, make sure is every day, that will create a good habit and you will be less likely to procrastinate or loss your time.

Procrastination in teenagers could be for many different reasons, it could also be low self esteem, lack of motivation, complexity of the work, lack of interest, anxiety or even depression. If you want to do other activities, do them before the schedule of your homework, but when you are ready to begin at your set time, it doesent matter anything else just focus.

There are other things that you can do to concentrate and get focus to do your homework or study an exam. You can meet with a friend that knows the subject and want to sutudy with you. This technique can work very well for students that like to help each other and concentrate better by being with other people. However, is important who you study with, if the person likes to chat a lot then both of you are going to procrastinate and wont work.

Those are some useful strategies for adolescent that procrastinate and want to have a better use of their time to accomplish more and have a more successful life.
